SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- More job cuts are anticipated for General Electric employees at the Schenectady plant.
GE announced as many as 200 salaried positions could be eliminated by the end of the year. The cuts come as a result of the company's plan to restructure manufacturing operations. Those cuts would impact the power and water unit.
According to GE officials, the cuts are being made to help retain competitiveness within the industry. They said hourly employees would not be impacted by the cuts.
For the employees who are impacted, GE officials said they will provide assistance to find other opportunities within the company, or provide severance and outplacement assistance if any employee chooses to leave the company.
