TROY, N.Y. -- The Troy woman charged with scamming a charity was arraigned on Monday.
Audrea Gause, 26, plead not guilty to larceny and gross fraud charges. According to police, she faked a traumatic brain injury and took $480,000 from One Fund Boston. The charity was set up to assist victims of the Boston Marathon Bombings.
Police received a tip about Gause, and arrested her after she tried to pay a developer in cash to build a brand new home.
Gause is currently being held on $200,000 bail. Police believe there could be additional arrests because Gause received help forging medical documents to prove she was injured.
The money has since been returned to the charity.
