WATERVLIET, N.Y. – One hundred years old and still on her game. That is her bingo game, of course.
Friends and family gathered Wednesday to celebrate Luella Bates' 100th birthday at the Watervliet Elks Lodge.
Bates is at the head of a family spanning five generations. She's been a faithful member of the bingo community for almost half her life and her family was happy to play alongside her.
"Bingo is one of her favorite things in the world. She comes every Wednesday. Her friends are here, she's been coming here for over 40 years," said Dianna Rios, Bates' great granddaughter.
"She is the most wonderful person in the world, I can't say that enough," said Mitzi Hall, Bates' granddaughter.
Bates says she plans to be back at bingo again next week as she has, for the last 40 years.
