CASTLETON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- As many as 20 cows are feared dead after a barn fire in Rensselaer County Friday afternoon.
The fire started around 12:30 p.m. Friday in a 150 year old barn at 1803 Brookview Road in Schodack at Peter's Dairy Farm. Around 100 firefighters from multiple fire companies were called in to help.
Aside from the cows, no one was hurt.
Firefighters also managed to save machinery that was inside.
Castleton Fire Chief Matt Carner said, ''Being the fact that it was fully involved upon arrival, it was an exterior attack. Protect the house, protect the outside structures. There's a machinery barn in the back. We worked to protect that, we did save that.''
There is no word yet on what caused the fire.
