SCHAGHTICOKE, N.Y. -Hoosic Valley Central School District is awarded a grant for their efforts in a teen driver safety program.
Friday's event, which was held in conjunction with National Teen Driver Safety Week, is especially meaningful for a community that has had its fair share of tragedies in the past two years.
A $5,000 check was given to the school for their participation in a teen driver safety program. The check was presented by representatives from State Farm Insurance and the State Trooper Foundation, on behalf of Troop G. State Police were also on hand to demonstrate the rollover simulator, as well as a texting simulator.
In July of 2011, Kyle Dobert and Alisha Schoonmaker were killed after crashing into a telephone poll on Route 40. Kyle's father, who was the driver, plead guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide in connection to that accident.
