ALBANY, N.Y. -Family and friends gathered in Albany City Hall's Rotunda Friday morning to celebrate the promotion of eight members of the Albany Police Department.
Mayor Jerry Jennings swore in the eight men, in his last promotion ceremony as Mayor. Mayor Jennings said this year has been filled with a lot of "lasts" as Mayor and that this ceremony is close to his heart.
"When I became mayor I knew the importance of this department to the city. Every last occasion is a little emotional for me, but I've had the honor for 20 years of working with the men and women of this department and they deserve our continued support for what they do day in and day out. And remember that long after I'm gone each and every day," said Jennings.
Jennings and Police Chief Krokoff also honored 80-year-old Albany Police Chaplain Father James Lefevbre, who has held the position for 51 years, by "promoting" him to honorary assistant police chief.
