TROY, N.Y. -- There is added security at a dance at Troy Middle School on Friday after a 13-year-old was arrested for saying he planned to shoot up the dance.
According to police, the Troy Police School Resource Officer heard rumors of a group of kids who planned to shoot up the dance. Officers said four students were involved in the plan. One 13-year-old boy actually brought a pellet gun on school grounds on Tuesday.
The teen was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon on school grounds. The three other students face disciplinary action, and were no longer allowed to attend the dance.
"This was an urgent effort today just to identify the players, to remove the possible threat and to make everyone be able to come to the dance safely tonight. What lies ahead for the students still is yet to be determined by the school," said Troy Police Captain John Cooney.
