SCHOHARIE COUNTY, N.Y. – U.S. Senator Charles Schumer met with Schoharie County officials Friday to discuss their appeal to FEMA to relocate the County’s Public Safety Building, which was severely flooded during Tropical Storm Irene.
FEMA recently determined it would only fund repairs at the current location. Schumer says the same location would be foolish and puts the facility at risk of repeated storm damage.
"I have brought this issue to the attention of top FEMA officials and made loud and clear that they should fund the relocation of Schoharie’s facility, which houses its jail, sheriff’s department and 911 emergency communications center. This facility should be dispatching emergency workers to the scene of the next natural disaster, not in need of a rescue themselves.”
