KINGSTON, N.Y. -- Primary elections are approaching on Tuesday. Now, candidates are hoping to gain more support as they prepare to head to the polls.
Democrat Nina Dawson is running for Kingston's 4th Ward Alderman. She held a rally on Saturday and is just one of three people vying for the nomination. Dawson is also running on the Working Families Party and the Independence Party lines.
She held the rally to inform voters about her plans to improve the city if she is elected. Dawson hopes there will be a greater focus on the Midtown area of Kingston.
"The one thing that is very, very important is inclusive government. This ward has been overlooked for years and I'm hoping to bring some of this ward and the decisions and the things that are important to us to City Hall. I want us to be included in the decision making process at City Hall," said Dawson.
Ismail Shabazz, and Nick Woerner, the endorsed Democratic candidate and former Town of Ulster Supervisor, are running against Dawson in Tuesday's primary. The winner will face Republican challenger Steve Ladin.
