NEWBURGH, N.Y. -- Orange County Legislator Patrick Berardinelli is calling on the state to change current traffic laws to allow surveillance cameras at certain intersections.
According to Berardinelli, too many drivers ignore stop signs in the city of Newburgh, and pose a serious risk to anyone in the nearby areas. He believes installing the cameras would make the intersections safer and hold drivers accountable.
Currently, New York State law does not allow traffic cameras in municipalities with a population smaller than one million people.
