Directors, screenwriters and their entire entourage are making way to upstate New York as the 14th annual Woodstock Film Festival kicks off in the Hudson Valley. YNN's Alexandra Weishaupt has more on what's in store for star seekers, movie buffs and film critics across the globe.
WOODSTOCK, N.Y. -- “I love the film festival, think it's brought a lot of great energy for people from all over and this is a town that has people from all over,” said Cristina Alyssa-Morgan.
It’s a village rich in artistic history, celebrating artistic people.
“It’s going to be chock full of celebrities all the way from Hollywood, Indywood, New York and of course, a lot of filmmakers, directors, writers and producers,” said Woodstock Film Festival Executive Director Meira Blaustein.
Connecting its upbeat, current vibes with its laid back old world charm and drawing in thousands like Christina Alyssa Morgan for a weekend full of film.
“I'm very excited to be here, I think it's a great thing that they're doing,” she said. “It's evolved perfectly, the zoning is great here and the arts are fantastic here.”
She and Rock Scully, the former manager of the Grateful Dead, flew in from California to scope out the scene.
“I'm excited about being here, excited about seeing the movies,” said Scully. “I'm just now checking out the films so we're just now figuring it out.”
And it promises to be bigger than ever according to organizers, who say the viewing area has expanded from here in Woodstock to Saugerties, Rosendale, Kingston and even neighboring Dutchess County. It’s an economic impact sure to be felt long beyond just this weekend.
“Every time filmmakers come here and they discover the area, they so often come back and make the next film here, so the community keeps on growing and expanding,” said Blaustein.
It’s an upstate expansion that continues to feature fierce independence through cinematic creativity one premiere at a time.
