ULSTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Ulster County Sheriff's deputies say a man sent his son to school with dry ice in his backpack, but it wasn't discovered until it exploded.
Detectives say Thomas Fitzgerald, 57, of Kingston, put the dry ice in a container in his five-year-old son's backpack for a school experiment. School staff, however, didn't know it was there and deputies say the container exploded in a classroom.
No one was injured and there was minimal property damage.
Fitzgerald was charged with multiple misdemeanors. He was given an appearance ticket to Marbletown Justice Court and released.
