DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- Cyclists, runners and walkers now have a brand new bridge allowing them to enjoy the entire Dutchess Rail Trail.
The new bridge is over 700 feet long and further connects both sides of the Hudson River. The trail stretches 13 miles from the Hopewell Depot in East Fishkill to the Walkway Over the Hudson in Poughkeepsie.
A ceremonial removal of the barricades was held Thursday at the bridge. County officials say they believe the Dutchess Rail Trail will promote tourism and positive economic development.
"Over the life of its existence, hundreds of thousands of people, visitors, residents and others will get to enjoy this great accomplishment," said Marcus Molinaro,Dutchess County Executive.
"Fall is a great time here in the Hudson Valley and this rail trail will certainly open up opportunities for scenic visits as well and for all the people who come up and enjoy our leaves," said Mary Kay Vrba, Executive Director Dutchess County Tourism.
There will be an official “Grand Opening” event for the completed trail in November.
