ULSTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- State Police arrested two Ulster County men they say stole guns and motorcycles from a home before setting the place on fire.
State Police received a call for a fully involved fire on Acorn Hill Road in Olivebridge Monday. Police say Justin Elmendorf, 20, and Michael Sanicola, 18, broke into the home and stole a handgun, three long guns, two motorcycles, chainsaws and other items. The say the men then intentionally sent the home on fire.
"Someone going into a residence and just breaking into a residence and stealing property is bad enough, but then they followed it up with burning the place down to hide their crime. That raises it certainly to another level," said Detective Stan O'Dell.
State Police say no one was at home at the time and all of the stolen property was recovered.
The men were both charged with arson, burglary and criminal possession of a weapon. They were arraigned and sent to Ulster County Jail.
