KINGSTON, N.Y. -- No layoffs and $250,000 in savings for the 2014 budget.
Mayor Shayne Gallo announced the budget Friday. He said it has a 2.87 tax levy on residential homes and a 2.77 percent on commercial properties.
Gallo says overall revenues are down in the city.
Despite the savings, he says if the state legislature does not extend the sales tax, then local businesses may be in trouble.
"In simple terms, that means substantial layoffs, could be reduction of city hall from five to four days a week. Disruption of payment for contractual obligations with vendors who provide goods and services it will be disaster," Gallo said.
Gallo calls on the governor and the legislature to also address unfunded mandates because according to him they will cripple local economies.
