KINGSTON, N.Y. -- East O’Reilly Street in Kingston was bouncing Saturday as the city fire department held a block party.
While the bouncy house was about fun for the kids, other parts of the event, like the fire safety house and health screenings, are about keeping folks safe.
According to Fire Chief Mark Brown, it's about connecting with the community.
"Since I've taken office, I kind of feel like we're a little misunderstood and people don't understand all the work we do in the city. So I put together a little block party, so people can come and meet the guys and get an idea for what we do. Because we're so much more than a fire department," said Chief Mark Brown of the Kingston Fire Department.
Chief Brown also says it's the first time they've done this event. But he hopes to keep doing it for years.
