HUDSON VALLEY, N.Y. -Senator Chuck Schumer will be in the Hudson Valley Thursday, urging the Drug Enforcement Agency to change regulations, and allow pharmacies and community groups to host prescription drug take-back events.
Schumer says the events are a way to get people to bring in old and unused medication to be disposed of properly. Current Drug Enforcement Agency regulations make it difficult to host prescription drug take-back programs.
New York State recently passed a bill that would certify participating pharmacies to hold these drug take back events, but Schumer says the Drug Enforcement Agency has to change regulations first.
Schumer is making two other stops in our area Thursday. One to ask the federal Environmental Protection Agency to work with state agencies on solutions to clean muddy waters in the Esopus Creek. The other will be to announce a plan to grow New York's cheese production industry.
