A program in the city of Newburgh is providing a safe place for kids to learn and play. YNN's Meredith Zaritheny has more about the Newburgh Youth Empowerment Center.
NEWBURGH, N.Y. -- The Newburgh Youth Empowerment Center provides a safe haven in an otherwise tough neighborhood.
The center is home to dozens of kids who have all made the choice to spend their time there, instead of on the streets. Paster Roni Austin started the program.
Roni and several volunteers assist the kids with homework and projects, provide snacks, and organize games and activities.
According to Pastor Roni, the center is an integral part of the community.
"We're here in the community making a difference and in terms of the kids, they feel safe coming here, I think that's the biggest thing," said Roni.
The center is open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 3 p.m. until midnight.
