DEERPARK, N.Y. -- A groundbreaking ceremony was held to begin the construction of a new Deerpark Highway Garage and Senior Center alongside Route 209. It's a project that town officials say is a long time coming.
Though the project will cost about $900,000, officials say taxpayers don't need to worry as there will be no increase in taxes as a result. They say the center is needed to provide more space for the growing community.
"The current facility, building two, is in rough shape and we wanted to have a nice center that we can have community events, that the seniors can come to and have their meetings and events and we're very, very happy that this is being accomplished this year," said Deerpark Town Supervisor Karl Brabenec.
Town officials say a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held in the spring.
