ULSTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Local breweries are asking lawmakers to pass a bill that would cut taxes, allowing them to grow and expand their businesses.
One of the those breweries is the Tuthilltown Spirits in Gardiner. Congressman Chris Gibson toured the facility Friday. He says he's pushing get the Small Brew Act passed through Congress. That bill would cut excise tax on small breweries by 50 percent.
"It means way more than whiskey. It will have a very large impact on agriculture, tourism, jobs, new job creation, as well as tax revenue for the fed," said Ralph Erenzo, co-founder of Tuthilltown Spirits.
Senator Charles Schumer also supported the bill at a small brewery in Athens Friday, signifying the bi-partisan effort to get the bill passed.
