POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- It was an unusual role for firefighters Saturday as they set fire to a wall at Dutchess County Fire Training Center.
It was all part of the semi-annual test burn for the Dutchess Community College fire science program.
The fire department set fire to a wall made from vinyl siding, foam insulation and wood in a controlled burn to show how flames extend up an exterior wall.
The chair of the school's fire science program says it's a great learning experience for the students.
"Part of this is we want the students to see this first hand and then we also we challenge them with this is the question and they put together the plan to turn around and solve it and see what the results are," said Dave Walsh, Program Chair of the Fire Science Program at DCC.
The students also got a chance to see firefighter's techniques up close.
