NEW YORK STATE -- The New York State Public Service Commission is pushing a program to help low income families pay their phone bills.
Residents who are eligible can sign up for a discounted telephone service called Lifeline. The program offers monthly discounts for basic home telephone service.
The program is being offered to New Yorkers who receive Food Stamps, Veterans Disability, Supplementary Security Income, and Home Energy Assistance Program.
