HURLEY, N.Y. -- A sad ending for a missing Hurley woman. State Police say an aviation unit spotted the body of Elizabeth Askue, 90, in a corn field off of Hurley Mountain Road Friday afternoon.
Askue was last seen Wednesday evening.
Much of her community participated in the extensive search for Askue, with the help of a helicopter, ATVs, various police and fire departments and water crafts.
"The resources all came out in force. We had a lot of community come forward. The Reform Church for our staging area provide us with meals. It was a community effort. Unfortunately, the outcome was not what we had hoped for," said Sgt. Jeffrey Radliff of the New York State Police.
Autopsy results are pending on the woman's exact cause of death. Police say she suffered from early stages of dementia.
