The man recently acquitted of fatally shooting Trayvon Martin is back in the headlines. Police say George Zimmerman threatened his wife at her father's home Monday afternoon. The Lake Mary Police Chief says Shellie Zimmerman called police around 2 p.m., stating her husband was making threats. The chief also says that Shellie Zimmerman doesn't want to press charges. She filed for divorce a month after George Zimmerman was acquitted for the murder of Trayvon Martin. Here to break down the case is our very own legal eagle, Paul DerOhannesian.
UNITED STATES -- George Zimmerman is back in the headlines after police say he threatened his wife Monday afternoon.
According to the Lake Mary police chief, Shellie Zimmerman called police, stating that her husband was making threats. The chief also says that Shellie Zimmerman doesn't want to press charges, but because of a Florida rule, Zimmerman can still be charged.
Video from an iPad and the 911 call could be used as evidence for the domestic violence case.
"Every one of these things that he's done, for example the traffic stops, the domestic violence incident, kind of increases the interest that the public has as well as law enforcement in your each and every move," said legal expert Paul DerOhannesian.
DerOhannesiansays this only increases the chances that Zimmerman could get into trouble and be prosecuted for something that another person wouldn't.
