FISHKILL, N.Y. -- Fishkill is facing fiscal stress according to a report from State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli's office.
An audit of the town's finances shows revenue was overestimated and expenses were underestimated, leading to a $2.2 million deficit combined among major operating funds.
DiNapoli says while some steps have been taken to reduce the deficit, more needs to be done. He recommends the town adopt more realistic budgets and monitor operations more closely throughout the year.
Town officials say they agree with the audit's findings and are in the process of developing a multi-year financial plan to address many of the issues found in the comptroller's report.
