DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- A former officer with the Village of Wappingers Falls who pleaded guilty to preying on immigrants looking for immigration assistance is sentenced in court.
Miguel Rodriguez was sentenced to one year in Dutchess County Jail after admitting to conning immigrants out of over $13,000. Those who reached out to him were trying to obtain drivers licenses and immigration assistance.
The Attorney General's office says Rodriquez charged the immigrants $300 each, falsely claiming he would enter them in a state lottery to obtain those licenses.
Along with jail time, Rodriguez was also ordered to pay back the money he took.
