SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Hundreds gathered at the North Country Heart Walk at the Saratoga Race Course, to remember lost loved ones, celebrate survivors and sing happy birthday to a seven-year-old survivor with a heart of gold.
Ella Daikos celebrated her birthday Saturday among hundreds of supporters. She was born with two congenital heart defects and had open heart surgery two years ago.
Now, with a healthy heart, Ella attended her fourth heart walk.
The walk raises money for the American Heart Association to fund research and education that will help save more lives like Ella's.
"She's just a living example of what the research money goes towards and how we can help improve and even prolong lives through research and education," said Brian O'Grady, Vice President at Blueshield of Eastern New York.
"Thank you everyone for coming. Have an awesome walk!" Ella said.
