MONTICELLO, N.Y. -- With the election drawing near, residents of Sullivan County had an opportunity to meet the candidates they will be voting for on Tuesday during a public forum.
The forum, moderated by the Sullivan County Chapter of the NAACP, was attended by several candidates in the county, including Town of Thompson Supervisor candidates William Rieber Jr., Gerard Fielding and Ramon Cedeira.
The NYS Casino Referendum was one of the topics each candidate spoke to and each were in agreement that if passed, the referendum will bring new jobs to the area.
The NAACP says the big goal for the forum is to encourage people to get out and vote.
"This forum tonight is extremely important with the election right around the corner, which is next Tuesday, and this is an opportunity for community members to really get to know those individuals who are running for office and what they stand for and really what their goal is once they are in office, or some of them are possibly going to be reelected," said Amanda Ward, Sullivan County NAACP President.
The NAACP says voter turnout is one of the crucial issues it's working on in the county.
