Sources say Tedisco concession likely
A finish line could be in sight in the race for the 20th Congressional District. With the numbers not looking good for Republican Jim Tedisco, sources tell Capital News 9 that Tedisco could concede to Democrat Scott Murphy as soon as Friday afternoon.
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Election Board workers open up ballots. Lawyers look for invalid marks that could void the vote. Commissioners from as far away as Essex and Delaware County are here as the campaigns review about 200 challenged ballots.
"We will see what the numbers are. We have been charged with opening the valid ballots and that is what we are doing, opening the valid ballots," said James Walsh, Tedisco's campaign lawyer.
But the numbers are challenging Republican Jim Tedisco's chances. With fewer than 1,000 paper ballot unopened, Democrat Scott Murphy's lead is about 400 votes.

"Well, anything is possible, but we are very comfortable where we are," said Henry Berger, Murphy's campaign lawyer.
Berger said 600 ballots were counted in Saratoga County Tuesday where the Murphy side lost a little less than 40 votes. Those numbers have not been reported yet, but with that chunk of ballots complete, Tedisco would need to get somewhere around 75 percent of the votes to win.
"I don't think that the lead is insurmountable. I think there is a lot of paper that needs to be counted," said Walsh.
“I think Mr. Tedisco needs to make his own decisions. I know he wants to make sure this process is completed. We wanted it completed and we hope we can very quickly now," said Berger.
Republican challenges make up a majority of the remaining challenges, with at least 300 because of residency. But it appears those votes may not even matter.
If there is a concession Friday, Capital News 9 will carry any speeches by Jim Tedisco and Scott Murphy.
