ALBANY, N.Y. -- Senator Roy McDonald is getting a big boost. Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced he'll endorse McDonald in the race for the 43rd Senate district seat.
Cuomo had previously called the Republican "brave" for crossing party lines last year and voting in favor of legalizing same-sex marriage in New York.
McDonald's primary opponent, Kathy Marchione, just declared victory in the race. She currently holds a 100-vote lead in absentee ballots, but McDonald hasn't given up on the race just yet. He can still run as a third party candidate on the Independence line.
McDonald's campaign said they're weighing all options and will have a decision by the end of this week or the beginning of next week.
Below is the letter Governor Cuomo sent to Senator McDonald:

There is possibly some interesting fallout in Albany from Cuomo's announcement of endorsing Senator McDonald, if he were to run, if for no other reason because we're talking about a Democratic Governor supporting a longtime Republican Senator. For a bit more perspective, we turn to Capital Tonight's Nick Reisman.
