WATERTOWN, N.Y. -- Although the audience was instructed to remain silent, there were a couple times when there was spontaneous applause. Most notably when Doheny took some jabs at Congressman Owens. When asked who won the debate, people were split, standing behind the candidate they came to support.

"Personally, I thought Matt Doheny did better. He seemed to have a little more attitude and a little more fire," said John Ainsley, a Doheny supporter.

"In my opinion, Congressman Owens was clearly the winner of that debate," said Kathleen Tucker, an Owens supporter.

Most people in the audience sported buttons or shirts supporting one candidate or another.
