In addition to the candidates on the ballots, there were also measures voted on across the country.

Voters in Colorado and Washington legalized the recreational use of marijuana. The measures regulate the production, possession, and distribution of marijuana for people 21 and older.

The Colorado governor, who opposed the measure, said that marijuana is still illegal under federal law. His office, however, intends to "follow through" with the will of the voters.

The state of Oregon had a similar measure on its ballot, but it failed in that state.
