Local church helps get kids off the streets
Pastor Charlie Muller of Victory Christian Church in Albany said, "You've go to get the ghetto out of the kid, or the kid will always live in the ghetto. So our goal is to get the ghetto out of the kid and replacing it with the love of God and saying, you know what, you have a future. I believe in you."
Muller said to do just that, it takes a little imagination, some TLC and a dream. In a few years, he hopes to transform an old truck center on Warren Street into a state of the art facility for kids to find food and fun when they have no where else to turn.
"We're gonna make sure they know they're loved, they know they have a future. No matter how bad their home situation, they know they're gonna make it," said Muller.
About two years ago, The JC Club, Victory Christian Church's first feeding center, opened on Quail Street. Last year alone, Muller said they served more than 87,000 meals.

Muller said, "Through the feeding center, we've seen a greater need to get closer to these kids, get closer to the gang bangers and call them by name. They get into gangs because they really want a family."
Although it's hard to tell now, the new facility will include a feeding center, dance floor, climbing wall, a computer lab and more. Since the church congregation funds most of the projects, Muller said he's keeping faith the feeding center will open this summer -- but it will take a few more years to complete the dream center.
