CAPITAL REGION -- Section II is home to a pair of state champs in softball this season. Both Chatham and Greenwich won a pair of games on Saturday to claim the state title.
Out of Class B, Chatham captured its first ever state title in softball. This after the Panthers won their first ever sectional title less than two weeks ago.
Junior pitcher Kayla Doty was dominant, throwing a 2-0 shutout in the semifinals on the way to a 4-3 win over Mydnerse in the finals.
Meanwhile in Class C, Greenwich also brought home a state championship with a 5-2 win over Greene in the finals.
It was their second state title in school history. They also won in 2003.
While softball is a team sport, it's safe to say senior shortstop Dani DeGregory had more than a hand in the Witches' title run. In two games Saturday, DeGregory was 6-8 with nine RBI's, including the game winner that sealed it for the Witches in the finals.
