Poughkeepsie Armory being put up on the auction block
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- A public auction is being held for the historic Poughkeepsie Armory.
The more than 23,000 square foot building is listed on both the National and State Registers of Historic Places and it is located within an area designated as a Central Commercial District. It was built in 1891 and designed by the same architect who is famous for designing and constructing the New York State Capitol.
For nearly 120 years, the armory also housed the New York Army National Guard. It was then closed after the New York Army National Guard Readiness Center was built in Westchester County.
The property is being sold as is and prospective bidders are encouraged to obtain professional advice about the property.
The auction will take place Thursday, August 2nd at the Eleanor Roosevelt State Office Building.
