The Spa Spot: Pletcher snags record 37th win

Todd Pletcher didn't waste any time getting his Saratoga-record 37th victory of the season Friday.

Repole Stable's Zow - Pletcher's first runner of the day - won the second race to break the record he set last year. Pletcher tied the mark with a win in the finale on Thursday.

"It feels great," Pletcher said. "We've had a sensational meet and things are clicking on all cylinders. We emphasize this meet and if your 2-year-olds run well be can be success here. The crew has done a great job. We've had a great meet."

Pletcher said the 2-year-olds were key to getting the record. He said he thought they had a good group heading into Saratoga.

"We were optimistic," Pletcher said, "but I thought we got some pretty good indications at the Belmont meet when this colt broke his maiden and Overdriven broke his maiden and Stat broke his maiden. Those horses have been training up here and training well.

"Sometimes the only way you now for sure is when you run them. Once you start to run them, then you start to get some comparisons to the ones that have been breezing well. We were pretty optimistic that we had a pretty strong group of babies."
