Burning Sands Stable's San Pablo wore down Isn't He Perfect in the stretch to win the $100,000 Birdstone Stakes for older horses Thursday at Saratoga Race Course.
San Pablo covered the 1 1/8 miles in 1:48.68, finished three lengths in front of Isn't He Perfect and paid $4.70.
The Jump Start colt trained by Todd Pletcher and ridden by John Velazquez, was fourth as the favorite in his last start, the Grade 2 Monmouth Cup. It was the first time he missed the board in 10 career starts.
