The Spa Spot: Day 36 wrap

Archwarrior debuted, Balance the Books captured the With Anticipation and Hall of Famer Jonathan Sheppard won the final steeplechase of the 2012 season. Four days remain.

  • You the Man won the opener, the first of the two jump races on the program. The second race, the Mrs. Walter Jeffords, was won by Cubist, trained by the Hall of Famer Jonathan Sheppard. Jockey Brian Crowley, who fell hard in the New York Turf Writers Cup last week, rode the winner.

  • The Todd Pletcher-trained Archwarrior drew lots of attention for his career debut in third race. He looked good while winning easily under John Velazquez.

  • Jockey Joel Rosario won three times and has 27 for the season.

  • There were only three winning favorites, dropping the meet total to 38.2 percent.

  • On-track attendance was down three percentage to 11,750. The on-track handle was even at $2,240,699. The total handle was down five percent to $11,443,981.

  • Csaba was the pick of many handicappers, but it was entrymate Miami Cat that won the $100,000 Equalize for trainer Phil Gleaves.

  • Klaravich Stables and William Lawrence's Balance the Books made a last-to-first dash to win the With Anticipation.
