Body found in Hudson River identified
TROY, N.Y. -- Deep in a decaying industrial section of South Troy is where police said Shelton Grant's body has been for the last 3 months. Police said someone killed Grant and headed for the Hudson.
“Our detectives believe that the foot of Madison St. Is where the body was disposed of in the river,” said Sgt. John Cooney.
Police said Grant was found by a man walking his dog late Saturday afternoon. Grant hadn't been seen since last November when he was dropped off at 4th and State Street downtown. Police said he was on his way to court after being arrested for drunk driving.
“Witnesses have told us that they were concerned harm could come the way of Mr. Grant by their observations they made in the days prior to his disappearance,” said Cooney.
So investigators now have to piece together what happened to Shawn Grant, from when he was last seen at 4th and State in November, to washing up on this concrete slab alongside the Hudson River.

“The particulars of that are pertinent to the investigation and we won’t be releasing that to the public but this is undoubtedly a homicide,” said Cooney.
Police have not said how Grant was killed, but Cooney said the cold water of the Hudson preserved Grant's body and, with the jacket Grant was wearing, police knew it was him pretty quickly. But, if the name isn't familiar, Cooney said there's a reason.
“To be very candid most of our missing person cases are resolved within the first 24 hours,” said Cooney.
However, now, this moves from a cold missing person case to a hot homicide investigation. Cooney said detectives want to talk to you if you know who killed Shawn Grant.
