Body found in Menands
MENANDS, N.Y. -- "Yes, it is...very scary."
Mary Anne McMahon said her Menands neighborhood is usually quiet. But not Wednesday, after what people thought were animal remains turned out to be a badly decomposed human body. Some in the area were too shocked to talk with us after they heard the body was found dismembered and wrapped in a plastic bag in back of a building on Clifford Road.
“It's horrible not knowing. It's not just not knowing whether it's Jaliek or not, we need to find him and know what happened to him,” said Dennis Smith, Jaliek Rainwalker’s adoptive grandfather.
The news startled those like Dennis Smith who have missing family members. He stopped by as police conducted their initial forensic tests. Police wouldn't confirm if the head or arms had been cut off.
“Until we have more of the forensic information, we're going to keep running down the leads we have and see where that information will take us,” said Menands Police Chief Michael O'Brien.

O'Brien wouldn't say if it was a man or woman, though another police source told us it was a woman.
You might wonder why it took so long to find the remains. There's plenty of garbage behind the building. Any remains especially in a plastic bag might be easy to miss. As well, the snow has only recently melted and the snowplow could have been moving snow and moving the bag with it.
“Someone else is going to have that pain we understand very well,” said Smith.
Now friends and families of missing people wait to find out who this is.
“It's really sad,” said McMahon.
