Youth movement toward voting
HUDSON, N.Y. -- This might not sound like your normal campaign rally. Bands filling up an old iron works, now the Basillica Industria performance space with modern music.


However, for Democrats including Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand it's a chance at connecting with young voters.

“They care about these national issues. The economy is the number one issue. A lot of these young people are the people who are going to lose their jobs,” said Gillibrand.

“We are not anything for granted, and we believe it is all going to come down to the wire and we want everyone to turn out to vote, especially young people,” said Victor Mendolia, Hudson City Democratic Committee Chair.

At the same time, Republican Sandy Treadwell's Halfmoon office busy with people picking up campaign info, and talking up Treadwell. However, many working the phones are nowhere near their 30th birthdays.


“At any given time anywhere from 100 to 200 young people come here on a weekly basis to help us out,” said John Hickock, Saratoga Co. Campaign Organizer.

“If we want to do something to keep the young people here, and keep people here in the district we need to do something about the enormous burden of taxes,” said Sandy Treadwell, (R) Candidate for Congress.

One study by Tuffts University had 6 and half million 18 to 29 year olds voting nationally in primaries.

The last time we were electing a president half of all eligible voters 18-29 hit the polls in New York and both campaigns say they'll need every vote they get this November.
