Race for 20th district heating up
CAPITAL REGION -- The race to fill Senator Kirsten Gillibrand's now vacant seat in the 20th Congressional District is heating up as the two candidates vying for the job come out swinging.

Republican Jim Tedisco, backed by the National Republican Campaign Committee, has launched a scathing new television ad, characterizing Democrat Scott Murphy as a Wall Street insider who voted to give himself a bonus while overseeing a cash strapped company.

While the Tedisco campaign has hammered away at Murphy's connections to Wall Street, Murphy has fired back at Tedisco, calling him a career Albany politician. His biggest criticism has been Tedisco's refusal to say where he stands on the $787 billion stimulus plan. On Thursday, Murphy's team circulated a YouTube clip from this past January, when Tedisco took issue with Caroline Kennedy's lack of clarity on that issue.

The race has gained much national attention, being that it is one of only two House races underway in the country right now. The special election is March 31.

Capital News 9 will bring you the final debate on March 26 live at 7 p.m. -- moderated by Capital Tonight host Brian Taffe and WROW's Sherman Baldwin.
