Search continues for Ackernecht
FULTON COUNTY, N.Y. -- "She always liked to joke around for one thing, with me anyway, and her and her daughter were like two peas in a pod," said Tim Kilcullen, Kellisue Ackernecht’s brother.
That's how Tom Kilcullen remembers his sister. It's been almost seven months and so far, no new leads.
"No concrete answers yet,” Kilcullen said. “It’s very aggravating. Somehow or another, we need to find out what's going on.”
Kilcullen says his family was trying to find those concrete answers with the help of Texas Equusearch. The organization is known for its involvement in high profile missing persons cases, but that plan quickly changed after the company decided to pull out of the search.
Equusearch reps told us because of the bad economy and Johnstown Police Department's lack of communication as to where to start searching, they were not sending a team to the area. But Lt. Mark Gifford from the Johnstown Police Department says that's not the case.
“Never once has the Equusearch organization contacted me or this police department, to the best of my knowledge. I’m quite certain if they had contacted this police department via the main desk or one of the sergeants, they would have been referred to me,” Lt. Gifford said.

Ackernecht was last seen on September 30th, just after finishing up her shift at a Rite Aid in the Town of Amsterdam. Police found her car the next day, completely burned and parked just miles away from her Johnstown home.
“It just seems kinda odd. There were two other three houses within the close proximity where the car burned. There were actually three houses within seeing distance. How can you not hear or see smoke?” Kilcullen said.
The community has pitched in to search for Ackernecht. Kilcullen says even though Equusearch will not be helping out, he knows he can always turn to the community, his friends and family for help.
“It’s disappointing that they are not coming out and we'll continue searching on our own,” Kilcullen said.
In the meantime, Kilcullen says he is not giving up.
The family is hosting a dinner on May 4th to remember Ackernecht and recruit volunteers for another round of searching in the coming weeks.
