MALTA, N.Y. - It's the third month anniversary of the official groundbreaking of the Global Foundries plant in July, and the company opened its doors so the public could see just how much has happened since then.
"So far so good. We started since ground breaking in July. We had good weather...work has gone well, " said Vice President and Director of Development for M + W Zander, Alan Asadoorian.
Three months into a 4.2 billion dollar project, developers say construction is on schedule.
"In my 5 or 6 months people seem excited for the opportunity for growth in their property values and long term employment opportunities," he said.
Today, there stands the framework for the outer walls of the main manufacturing plant. While Asadoorian said he's anticipating some difficult winter months, he said construction will continue right on track.
"They're going to be battling wind and snow. ..We're anticipating slow progress but hope to make progress so next spring we can finish," said Asadoorian.
Many local people say they were excited despite the rain to come out and see how progress was going on the project.
The open house offered the community a rare glimpse into a project whose impact will be felt for generations.
