GREENFIELD, N.Y. -- State Police continue to investigate bone fragments found deep in the woods off Fox Hill Road on the border of the Towns of Providence and Greenfield.

Police say initial reports suggest the parts of a skull and jaw bone are that of a 10 to 12 year old person. State Police also say the bones are relatively new. The remains were taken to the state police lab where DNA testing will begin today. Investigators will test the DNA from the fragments to known missing person's cases from the area.

Police say it could be weeks or months before we know who the person was. While police have not ruled anything out, they say it is too soon to link the discovery of the remains to any missing persons cases, including that of 12-year-old Jaliek Rainwalker who disappeared in November of 2007.

Meanwhile, Greenwich police Chief George Bell says he's hopeful and optimistic that Jaliek's case could be closed with this new find. He said the profile of the bones fit the profile of Jaliek but cautions that investigators do not know if the bones belong to a male or female. Bell also said there has been a female missing since 1992. That missing girl was Sara Anne Wood.

Investigators are back on the scene this morning looking for more remains. We will be following this story closely and will bring you more information as we get it.
