LATHAM, N.Y. -- A portrait of a local soldier who died while fighting in Iraq was presented to his family at a ceremony in Latham.
The American Fallen Soldier Project presented the portrait of Sergeant David Fisher of Watervliet to his mother at the Division of Military and Naval Affairs. Fisher was a member of the New York National Guard. He was killed while on patrol in Iraq in December of 2004 when the vehicle he was riding in overturned.
His mom picked out the photo that was used for the portrait.
"I felt it captured David's personality so well, it actually made me feel really good. I thought I would feel sad, but, I felt happy just by the look on his face and I felt good about it," said Vicki DuMura.
Fisher was 21 at the time of his death.
The American Fallen Soldiers Project presents families with custom portraits of their late loved ones at no cost.
