SOUTH CAROLINA -- A South Carolina man is sentenced to life in prison with no parole in connection with the death of a Schoharie County truck driver.
After four and a half hours of deliberating- a jury found Willie Pelzer guilty of murdering Jason Rivenburg of Fultonham.
Prosecutors said Pelzer shot Rivenburg in the head several times inside the cab of his truck during an armed robbery. It happened while Rivenburg was resting at an abandoned gas station along a South Carolina interstate.
Pelzer spoke out in court- saying he's sorry for what he's done.
"I admit what I did was wrong..I admit to it. And it wasn't over drugs, nothing like what the solicitor implied or whatever, it wasn't. It was senseless, it wasn't what I wasn't nothing I was raised to do."
A bill to increase the safety of all truck drivers at rest stops has been introduced in the House by Congressman Paul Tonko. It's called "Jason's Law".
