Teen charged under Leandra's Law
FLORIDA, N.Y. -- A Glenmont teen was charged under the new Leandra's Law after State Police said he was driving drunk. Ryan Alexaitis, 17, lost control of his car and went into a ditch while driving on State Route 5S in the Town of Florida early Saturday.
Five other teenage passengers were in the vehicle. Troopers say a breath test revealed Alexaitis' blood alcohol content was .15%; almost twice the legal limit.
Because one of the passengers was 15, Alexaitis was charged under Leandra's Law. The law, which went into effect December 18th, makes it a felony to drive while intoxicated with a passenger under 16 years of age.
Alexaitis is being held in Montgomery County Jail on $5,000 bail.
