ALBANY, N.Y. -- This holiday season brought along some good news for retailers as last-minute holidays sales gave them a bit of a boost.
The Retail Council of New York released its latest report which shows sales a week before Christmas were considered "successful" by 70 percent of surveyed retailers.
Retailers ultimately gave the 2009 season a grade of "B-" which was an improvement over the "C-" they gave last year.
About 74 percent of retailers said they saw an increase in sales or similar numbers compared to the same time last year.
Retailers also saw a boost in after-Christmas sales compared to last year with 58 percent of merchants reporting sales that were better than or the same as their sales in 2008 for the days immediately following Christmas.
