GREENE COUNTY, N.Y. -- They call them wounded warriors. Men and women who risked their lives for our country and were injured on the battlefield.
On Friday, 26 of them and their families came together for the "Support Our Troops" weekend at Windham Mountain in Greene County. With help from the Adaptive Sports Foundation, the four day event is a chance for soldiers and Marines injured during recent tours in Iraq and Afghanistan to have some fun on the slopes. Activities include ski and snowboard lessons, ski parties and snow tubing.
"Enjoying myself. Having fun. It's real fun. I'm really enjoying it. I never thought I could see myself doing this but, because of my knee being messed up, I put myself through a challenge to make it happen," said Elvie Payton.
This is the sixth year in a row for the Wounded Warriors "Support Our Troops" weekend at Windham Mountain.
